Some residents of Taraba have said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s independence broadcast to the nation has raised the hope of Nigerians.
The citizens who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jalingo noted that the president’s speech had raised the hope as more action was pledged on tackling insecurity.
Mr Sunny Yunus, a Jalingo resident, said the president was able to highlight practical measures such as purchase of more fighter jets and recruitment of more security personnel to tackle insecurity, head on.
According to Yunus, the major problem with the country at the moment was insecurity, saying, if tackled, Nigeria would bounce back strongly as a prosperous nation.
“The aspect of the Buhari’s speech that interested me was the pledge to aggressively tackle insecurity in the country.
“Insecurity is the major challenge of the country at the moment and the pledge of more decisive action on it is so key to national development,” he said.
Mrs Confidence Manu, another resident said that the president’s speech touched on almost all aspects of humman endeavour which could spur development if action was quickly taken.
She particularly was pleased with the aspect of strengthening the capacity of Nigerian health facilities to be able to produce vaccines locally.
Another resident,Malam Aminu Abubakar, also said the president’s broadcast was very good but should immediately be put to action to provide more to restore hope to Nigerians.
Abubakar stated that he was concerned about the depreciation of the value of the Naira and insecurity and called for more measures to arrest the situation.
