The Lagos State Chapter of the Accord party has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for speaking to Nigerian youths in his 61st Independence Day Broadcast to the nation.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Dele Oladeji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), while reacting to the broadcast in Lagos on Friday, that the president spoke glowingly of the youths.
NAN recalls that the president in his 2021 Independence Day broadcast said: “The youths of this great country remain propellants for our today and provide guarantees that we will have a secure tomorrow.
“It is for this reason that I remain focused on expanding opportunities for their participation in politics and governance,”
Buhari also said that recent appointments of young people into positions of authority and their track records so far, gave him confidence to bring more of them into governance.
“This I promise to do,” the president pledged
According to the Accord party chieftain, nobody should talk down at Nigerian youths’ hard work and noble drives across careers.
Oladeji said: “The president refers to being satisfied and vindicated for appointing youths into his government, while still promising to do more.
“We want the president to show more appreciable youth presence and relevance in his government.
“We will look to his promise of doing more, since he has acknowledged the place and importance of youths in governance.
“The speech portrays sensitivity and awareness on the part of the president.”
He said that Accord Party’s membership and leadership, had been youth-driven and focused, saying all the executive members of the party were young Nigerians because of its belief in youths as change agents.
Oladeji wished Nigeria and Nigerians, a happy 61st independence anniversary.
