Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camped at the Batsari Model Primary School, in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, has expressed their appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the relief items sent to them due to bandit attack on the community.
They also commended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq for the intervention.
The six trucks loads of assorted items include; rice, beans, maize, beverages, powdered milk, sugar, seasoning, tin tomatoes, blankets, nylon
mats, foam mattresses, vegetable oil, salt, detergents, bathing soap, women and children clothing.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also presented five cows to the IDPs as gifts for the Eid el-Kabir celebration.
Mr Kabiru Umar, Camp Manager, Batsari Model Primary School IDPs Camp, expressed their appreciation to the president and the minister for their kind gesture.
“I want to extend our appreciation toPresident Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sa’adiya Umar Farouq, for assisting us with these materials for our IDPs.
“The state and local governments have been assisting us too but with these materials from the president, I know that we will feed well now,” he said.
An IDP and a nursing mother, Hafsat Musa, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), appreciated the president and the minister for the materials sent to them.
Mr Ibrahim Khalil, Chief Administration Officer, North-West Zonal Office, NEMA, who distributed the items on behalf of the Director General, NEMA, retired AVM Muhammadu Muhammed, said that Buhari directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to expedite action and activate NEMA to provide succour to the IDPs.
“I am here on behalf of the Federal Government to sympathise with you as a result of very sad happenings of armed bandits attack in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State which has resulted in the displacement of many of you in Batsari Model Primary School IDP camp.
“It is sad, because, it came a few days to the Eid el-Kabir celebration when our people were already in festive mood in preparation for the great Islamic religious obligation.
“We are fully aware, that, some of you are traumatised and have lost properties, including households materials, food and livestock.
“It is on this note that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sa’adiya Umar Farouq, to expedite action and activate the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide succour to the affected persons,” he said
