An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered a 25-year-old man, Kareem Akeem, to clean public toilets for 82 hours for stealing copper wire worth N200,000.
Akeem, who resides at 4, Ipaja Road, Ikola, Lagos, pleaded guilty to theft and begged the court for leniency.
Chief Magistrate D. S. Odukoya, sentenced Akeem, without an option of fine.
Odukoya said the sentence will serve as deterrent to others.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Olusegun Oke, told the court that the offence was committed on Aug. 13 at Dangote Sinotruck Company, Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja.
Oke said the defendant was caught with a copper wire valued N200,000.
The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
