Gombe: Various empowerment items including tricycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, gasoline generators, irrigation machines and other food and household items worth millions of naira have been distributed to physically challenge and less privileged people in across the 11 local government areas of Gombe state.
The items were donated by Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, in collaboration with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Distributing the items to the beneficiaries at his Gombe residence, Sen. Goje said that the effort is aimed at getting the people out of poverty, make them self-reliant as well as employers of labour because according to him, if they engage others in the businesses they are doing, others will benefit.
Represented by member representing Yamaltu West constituency in Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Sadik Ibrahim Kurba, Sen. Goje called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, adding that many youth and women will continue to benefit from such interventions.
Kurba added that Sen. Goje is committed to seeing that poverty is eradicated among the people, stressing that no meaningful development can be made amidst abject poverty.
In his remarks, representative of Director General NIMASA, Abdullahi Yelwa Salihu commended Sen. Goje for bringing succour to his people, saying that the empowerment Programme will take the people out of poverty.
He added that before the coming of Senator Goje, only few states of the federation benefit from NIMASA supported programmes, but his coming as Chairman Senate Committee on Maritime, Sen. Goje expanded the programme to cover all the 36 states of the country and the FCT.
In his speech, the state chairman of the Amalgamated Union of Physically Challenged, Alhaji Umaru Goro commended the senator for the gesture saying elected politicians should not abandon their electorates but should emulate Goje through execution of constituency programs and provision of intervention.
