The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered another setback after over 670 of its loyalists dumped the party for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The decampees were formally received by the PDP state Chairman, Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel.
Gumel said he was not surprised over their defection, stressing that no sensible politician would give a second thought to abandoning the APC because of its failure.
He welcomed the new members and promised to treat them like any other party member.
Leader of the decampees, Alh. Tanimu Maitsintsiya said, they decided to join PDP because the ruling APC had failed to deliver on its campaign promises.
“We decided to dump our former party, APC, and join the PDP because the APC government has failed to live up to its election promises and their nostalgia of the PDP era.” He said.
Other speakers at the event which include, Hon. Adamu Jumbo, Hon. Nasiru Umar Roni, Hon. Nasir Mohammed Sparrow and PDP state youth leader, Kabiru Kazaure among others, described dismal performance of their former party at both state and national levels as their reason for dumping the ruling party.
