Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Gombe and former gubernatorial aspirant of the party in 2019, Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin Barde, has formerly confirmed his defection from the ruling APC.
In a parley with the Gombe local government executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barde has confirmed his membership of the opposition PDP in the state.
According to him, he joined PDP to contribute his qouta to rescue the state from misrule of the APC government.
He added that it was self-deceit for the elites to remain in their comfort zones and allow Gombe to wallow in poor development indices, adding, “What is happening in the state is enough to make someone ashamed.
“I am here today to formally declare and inform you that I am now a member of the PDP. I went round all the eleven local government areas and some wards to inform our party leaders that I am now one of their members.”
“I joined the PDP not to satisfy my personal interest, but to contribute my qouta in the great work of rescuing Gombe State from APC misrule.” He said.
Barde further reiterated that Gombe people are no longer ready to put up with the wickedness of the APC, in its atrocious activities, self enrichment through treasury looting and exorbitant contracts, ideology of violence, with which they have thrown the state into backwardness and unbearable hardship in the last two years.”
While responding, Gombe LGA PDP Chairman, Alhaji Idris Bello alias Alhaji Yaro, described Barde’s defection as a welcome development to the PDP, not only in Gombe, but in Nigeria in general.
He said, “I am happy that a heavy weight, who was runner up in the APC governorship primary election in 2019 has today dumped his former party for PDP, this is a clear evident that PDP is making headways in Gombe.
“As we all know, we are not discriminating between new and old members in PDP. Therefore as from today, Dan Barde is a full member in PDP just as every member.”
Recall that, Barde was the runner-up in the 2018 APC gubernatorial primary election.
