Mr David Famuyiwa, the Executive Chairman, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Wednesday purchased 300 General Certificate of education Examination (GCE) forms for indigent students within the council.
Famuyiwa said, during the distribution of the forms at the Council Secretariat in Abule Egba, Lagos, that the gesture was to assist families facing challenges at this trying time in the country.
“As we all know, we are in trying times now due to the outbreak of COVID-19 that has slowed down our economy as a nation.
“It has also greatly affected the finances of individuals.
“For this reason, I and my team have decided to alleviate the effect by purchasing and distributing GCE forms to some of our children who due to the financial situation cannot afford to purchase one,” he said.
He added that the beneficiaries were selected by the various leaders and stakeholders within the community to ensure that only truly indigent youth were picked.
The chairman, however, urged the beneficiaries of the free forms to utilise the opportunity given to them to better their lives.
According to him, he will be happier and will be prompted to do more if the beneficiaries pass the examination excellently.
Mrs Olapeju Akin-Ajayi, the Council Manager, in her remarks appreciated the council chairman for the kind gesture shown to the indigent students in the various communities in the LCDA.
Akin-Ajayi advised the students to study hard and desist from relying on anyone to write the exams for them as their success in the exam would encourage the LCDA to do more in the future.
She appealed to the council boss to consider giving free JAMB form to students who would possess the qualification at the appropriate time.
Mrs Iretioluwa Akinlolu, the Head of Education Department, Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, also appreciated the chairman for his efforts to ameliorate the effect of the economy on the students educational pursuit.
Mr Elijah Adenuga, one of the beneficiaries, commended the council boss for his kind gesture.
Adenuga said he could not contain his joy, adding that the chairman had given him hope to further his education.
He promised to study hard and pass his exams in flying colours and prayed heartily for the success of the present LCDA administration.
Miss Adeyeye Deborah, another beneficiary, said that she was happy for the kind opportunity given to her by the council boss to further her academic pursuit.
“This is a great privilege given to me because my mother is a petty trader and it will take a while before she can gather money to purchase this forms for me, I really appreciate this kind gesture,” Adeyeye said.
