Sometimes unveiling the aura and human gestures of individuals who have surfaces in providing ease to the common man is mostly misconstrued as obsequious sycophancy but it has become a duty upon few of us, particularly those who are seen as controversial to make little efforts which will encourage such individuals to continue with the good work they have been doing to humanity, especially the most vulnerable persons in the society.
In fact, this piece is not even intending to enumerate the number of good works or gestures that Zaynab have been doing but rather to try and inform readers that whatsoever surfaces from her, is not unexpected of the progeny of a second republic businessman and politician Alhaji Shu’aibu Jimeta. Thus, her commitment which is surreptitiously coordinated in the last one and a half decade to ensure full and equitable participation of women in public life is essential to building and sustaining strong vibrant democracy. How she was able to maintained contact with network of women in Gombe state through remarkable gestures has indeed classified her among strong women who are working tirelessly to close the wage gap existing between men and women in political space. Women’s participation in governance, particularly decision making – helps advance gender equality and affects both the range of policy issues that get considered and the types of solutions that are proposed.
Accordingly, the meaningful participation of women in national, local and community leadership roles has become an important focus of global development policy. Zaynab advocacies for women political participation indicates how such commitments will results in tangible gains for democracy, including greater responsiveness to citizen needs, increased cooperation across party and ethnic lines, and more sustainable peace. Now, it is up to our women to sift through in making decisions through voting polls thereby voting individuals, whose ideas will have a distinct impact on their policy priorities, making it critical that women are present in politics to represent the concerns of women and other marginalized voters and help improve the responsiveness of policy making and governance.
As we try to elect individuals into sensitive positions we must understand the impact of their closest companions. when Barack Obama describe Michelle as the bedrock of his success he was literally disclosing how Michelle was part of every single success of his administration, from conceptualizing ideas that will change the betterment of the American people to implementing policies that have greater impact on their economy.
Beyond just rhetoric of the political class it is imperative we carefully pay attention to the antecedents of people we intend to put our future into their hands through elective positions. We must collectively put efforts to change the status co, particularly how the vulnerable are left behind.
As 2023 approaches and discussions continues we must watch closely to sift through where we are coming from, where we are and where we want to be, we must avoid glorifying cheap gestures by incumbents whose motive is basically self-serving through aggrandizement and misplaced priorities.
