Protests have erupted Friday morning in Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State over the spate of deadly attacks by bandits on the communities of the local government, Daily Trust gathered.
Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others displaced following the unending assaults on several farming and herding communities in the state.
Last week, an attack on the community in Zurmi Local Government saw more than 11 people dead.
Residents lament that dwellers of several communities are under armed bandits’ siege.
They carried some corpses and stormed the town protesting the incessant deadly raids by the armed men.
A resident identified as Mustapha said: “They headed to the emir’s palace to register their grievances.
“However, the Emir did not attend to them as he was said to be inside. They then set bonfires before they left.
“The protesters withdrew and then regrouped at the Gusau-Jibia road and began to smash the vehicles of the motorists plying the road.
“They also smashed the screens of the vehicles parked by the road.”
“The situation is under control now as security operatives are patrolling the streets of the town to restore law and order.
“And people have gone back to their normal businesses,” he added.
