A Non-Governmental Organization; USRI YUSRA Youth and Women Development Initiative, has distributed essential food items to no fewer than 20 widows in Kaduna state.
The Chief Executive Officer/ Coordination of the organization, Hajia Zuwaira Sani Bakori, while addressing newsmen shortly after the presentation of the items to the beneficiaries in Kaduna, disclosed that the gesture was to build resilience to hunger amongst the widows.
Hajia Bakori explained further that the distribution of the food items was also to enable the beneficiaries (widows) have smooth preparation for the forthcoming Sallah and aiming at boosting their morale during the festivity period.
While speaking, she said: “this is not the first of its kind, during the lockdown necessitated by the COVID-19, we equally reached out to number of people in the neighbouring communities and we are hoping to do more of this in the future.
“We are also planning to reach out to people in Southern Kaduna, especial now that there is unrest in the area, and that is why we are calling on the like minds and governments to support this initiative.
“The beneficiaries are already in a cooperative society, so it becomes easy for us as NGO to identify them and that is how we arrived at the number we have today. We are planning to reach out to more people because the programme is a continuous process.”
One of the beneficiaries, Hajia Hadiza Ahmed Yahya, who was happy about the gesture said: “ I am appreciative of the NGO for reaching out to the widows, especially at a time like this, praying that may God Almighty bless those behind the NGO.”
Food items distributed are: Rice, Pure Vegetable Oil, Spaghetti, Macaroni, Tomatoes paste, blankets and face masks.
