The Zamfara government, on Friday, distributed seedlings to 1,000 cotton farmers as part of efforts to improve farming activities in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Maiturare, Special Adviser to the Governor on Zamfara Directorate of Accelerated Cotton Development (ZAMDACOD), performed the distribution of the items to the farmers in Gusau.
Maiturare said that the seedlings were provided in collaboration with the Directorate and Raw Materials Research and Development Council of Nigeria.
He said that the beneficiaries were drawn from all the 14 local government areas of the state, adding that each beneficiary would be given two bags of cotton seeds.
“The arrangement is a way by the directorate to provide free fertilisers and insecticide to registered cotton farmers across the state”, the special adviser said.
He urged farmers to start planting the seeds, noting that only those who utilised them would benefit from the next phase of distribution of insecticide and fertilisers.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Aminu Sulaiman, expressed the Gov. Bello Matawalle-led administration’s readiness to improve the agricultural sector in the state.
Sulaiman, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman, urged farmers to utilise the seedlings judiciously.
