The Police on Friday arraigned a sales girl, Martha David, 25, before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged misappropriation of her employer’s N243,000 from sales of children’s clothes.
The defendant, a resident of Kawo in Kaduna State, is facing trial on a two-counts charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant, one Chimezie Obinna, of Kawo Market in Kaduna, reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on Oct. 31.
Leo told the court that the complainant had employed the defendant as his sales girl.
The prosecutor added that sometime in September 2020, the defendant, allegedly sold some children’s wears valued at N243,000 in her employer’s absence and converted the proceed to her personal use.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 257 and 342 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
He held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should submit either two passport photographs or a driver’s license to the court’s registrar.
Emmanuel adjourned the case until Dec. 15, for hearing.
