A 33-year-old business manager, Onuh Edoka, who allegedly stole his employer’s recharge cards valued at N983,683 on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Edoka, a resident of No. 47 Oladimeji St., Aguda in Lagos, is charged for stealing.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, said the defendant stole N983,683 worth of recharge cards, property of his employer, Ringo Telecom Ltd.
Nomayo told the court that the defendant committed the offence between January and August at No. 75, Allen Avenue in Ikeja.
The prosecutor said that the defendant allegedly converted the proceeds from the cards to his personal use.
“Efforts made to retrieve the money from the defendant proved abortive,” Nomayo said.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fajana, admitted the defendant to N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Fajana ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
NAN reports that the alleged offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Stealing from an employer violates Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law, which attracts seven years jail term upon conviction.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until Dec. 14 for trial.
