Two men, Chukwusom Ezeibe, 35, and Abube Ogbu, 25, were on Tuesday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly buying a sub-standard snooker table for a customer.
The duo, whose addresses were not provided, are being tried on a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and breach of public peace.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at No. 104, Western Avenue, Surulere.
Osayande said the defendants collected N250, 000 from one Odunayo Ayeni on the pretext that they would buy a quality snooker table for him.
She said that the defendants tricked and defrauded Ayeni, having delivered a poor quality snooker table for the amount they collected.
The prosecutor said that the defendants breached public peace after they started a fight when Ayeni complained about the quality of the snooker table.
He said that the offences contravened Sections168 (d), 323 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 411 stipulates two years jail term for conspiracy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adewale Ojo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Ojo adjourned the case until Dec. 14 for mention.
