The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) mission Director in Nigeria, Anne Patterson has commended Kebbi State government for improving Primary Healthcare in the state from 54% in 2012, to 82% in 2019.
The Mission Director made the commendation in a virtual address to the 2020 first USAID Kebbi State Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) review meeting on Monday.
She expressed satisfaction with the performance of Kebbi state government in the implementation of the MoU throughout the state in spite of numerous challenges on ground.
She further advised the government to digitalize health data, assuring that USAID would further provide Kebbi State with the necessary input including professional training towards attaining the targeted objectives.
Peterson sympathized with the government and people of Kebbi state on the recent flood which destroyed infrastructure, farmlands and foodstuffs as well as loss lives.
In address, Gov. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu thanked USAID for acknowledging the efforts of the state government in the health sector, pledging to sustain the goal of universal health coverage in spite of all the challenges on ground.
He thanked the USAID and GAVIL for announcing new support to the state in the areas of human resources and health system strengthening.
The Governor said the state has done very well in the last two years in the release of funds to Primary Healthcare (PHC) through the monthly routine LGA PHC fund which was released on monthly basis since last year.
Earlier speaking, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr Jaafaru Mohammed Zuru gave a comprehensive review of achievements in all areas of healthcare delivery in the state from medical outreach, renovation of PHCs throughout the state, managing of COVID-19 pandemic and making healthcare services affordable and accessible in the nooks and crannies of the state.
