Mrs Ladi Bala, a Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has urged members of the association in Oyo State to vote for credible leaders in its forthcoming election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Triennial Delegates’ Conference of the association, termed ‘Minna 2020’ is scheduled to hold in Minna, Niger, between Friday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 15.
Speaking when her campaign team visited members of the Oyo NAWOJ in Ibadan on Tuesday, Bala promised to be the voice of the voiceless if elected as the president of the association.
According to her, journalists are saddled with the responsibility of impacting humanity positively and the association provides women with the opportunity to serve as well as contribute their quota to the development of the society
Reeling out her manifesto, Bala noted that the issue of having a national secretariat for NAWOJ would be tackled if voted into office as the president.
She said that if given the mandate to serve, she would provide mentoring and training that would drive young girls in the profession to greater heights.
The presidential aspirant promised to sustain training and retraining of NAWOJ members, especially in the fields of ICT, in order to develop the ability of women journalists to meet up with today’s society.
She also promised to be an advocate of issues affecting women in the profession.
Meanwhile, the leader of the campaign train, Mr Amos Duniya, urged NAWOJ members not to vote in leaders who would not uphold the lofty ideas of the association.
Duniya described Bala as a focused and passionate person, particularly in matters affecting the association.
He said Bala was the right choice for the election, noting that she had garnered a lot of experience, both as a professional journalist and on issues relating to NAWOJ.
In his address, Ademola Babalola, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, acknowledged Bala as a versatile professional.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ in Oyo State, Jadesola Ajibola, also gave her nod to the candidature of Bala.
