First Lady Aisha Buhari on Friday donated cosmetology resettlement
items to widows and vulnerable women in Machina Local Government Area of Yobe to enable them to start businesses.
Buhari was represented by her Special Assistant on the Organisation of African First Ladies on HIV and Aids, Mr Mohammed Al-Bashir.
She said the gesture was aimed at complementing government’s efforts in reducing poverty among women and youths in the country.
She advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the resources giving to them and engage themselves in profitable businesses.
The first lady urged Nigerians to support women especially widows.
Also speaking, Speaking, the Emir of Machina, Alhaji Al-Bashir Bukar Al-Bishir, expressed gratitude to the first lady for identifying with the vulnerable women in his community.
” This is the first time Machina community is receiving humanitarian assistance from any first lady of Nigeria.
”We really appreciate her gesture and this will surely go down in the history of Machina Emirate” he said.
He enjoyed the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries were mostly widows especially those in the Internally Displaced Persons Camps (IDPs).
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to NAN, expressed gratitude to the first lady for the gesture and appealed to other wealthy individuals to support them.
Similarly, the first lady also donated the items to vulnerable women in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe.
The beneficiaries are to be trained in different skills, including tailoring, cosmetology and culinary classes, among others.
