A mechanic, Tayo Akani, 32, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada, FCT, for alleged negligent conduct.
The police arraigned Akani, who lives in Gwagwalada is charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust and negligent conduct.
The police counsel, Abudullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Kayode Alade reported the matter at the police station on Sept. 10
Tanko said that the complainant entrusted his Toyota Corolla with registration No. DY 529 ABJ worth N1.2 million to the defendant to repair but he negligently took it to his house without the consent of the complainant and later reported that the vehicle was stolen.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 311 and 196 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Mr Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N 1.5 million with one reasonable and reliable surety in like sum.
Umar ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with verifiable address.
He also ordered that the surety must present valid means of identification and print out a Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Umar adjourned the case until Nov. 24 for hearing.
