An NGO, New Badagry Forum (NBF), on Monday engaged 60 youths in the town on digital training to enable them to compete with other youths in different part of Lagos State.
Declaring open the registration portal for Digital Training in Badagry, Prince Olu Kosoko, Chairman of the forum, said the training was to bridge the gap created in the digital space for youths.
According to the chairman, Badagry youths cannot compete with its contemporary in Epe, Ikorodu and Ikeja because of the space created by this digital gap.
He said the youth in Badagry needed a digital environment that would help them to compete with their mates in order divisions in Lagos.
The chairman said that was the reason why the forum created an avenue for youths in Badagry to engage in digital training for the them to become skilled in the digital space.
“The two weeks intensive training programme will equip the beneficiaries with high-end digital and programming skills for developing creative animations, games and solutions in a stimulating and exciting environment.
“This is to create future for our youths. We need to change the fundamental understanding of every Badagry youth,” he said.
Kosoko said that NBF was a non-partisan NGO that focused on leadership, grassroots impact, advocacy and value creation.
He added that the aim and objective of the forum was to unite together for purposes and contribute toward the development of the ancient town.
“The purpose of the forum is to have a new Badagry with a paradigm shift from the conventional approach to issues, tapping into both local and international opportunities to build human capital and promote the image of Badagry through appropriate branding,” he said.
He thanked the foum’s members and Board of Trustees (BOT) for their contributions.
Mr Opeyemi Oke, the Project Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, Dooke Innovation Centre & Equip Africa, said the project would prepare the youth in Badagry digitally for the future.
Oke said the training would admit 60 youths throughout the three local government area in Badagry.
He said the portal for the training programme is www.newbadagryforum.org, adding that it would be opened shortly after the closing of the registration on Oct. 14.
“The training programme will start on Oct. 16 and will last for 14 days.
“The youth will be taught how to design products, programming, building website and digital marketing. This training will make them to be relevant in future,” he said.
He noted that all expenses for the training of the 60 youths had been paid for by the forum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of NBF present included Mr Zosu Solomon, the Director of Communications, Abdulsalam Ashade, Director of Finance, and some students of secondary schools of the town.
