Catholic Bishops Hail Governor Eno’s Transformational Leadership, Describe Arise Resort As Model For Tourism, Economy

By Dennis Udoma, Uyo

Catholic Bishops in Nigeria have hailed Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his vision and innovation in transforming a 70-hectare erosion-ravaged land into the world-class Arise Resort.

The Bishops, led by the Papal Nuncio to Nigeria and representative of Pope Leo XIV, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, described the project as a model for tourism and economic growth during a courtesy visit and state reception at Government House, Uyo, on Wednesday.

Archbishop Crotty lauded the Governor’s foresight, calling the Arise Resort “innovative and spectacular.” Similarly, the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, praised Governor Eno’s people-oriented governance and ingenuity in turning a “wasteland into wealth.”

He expressed optimism that the resort would attract global tourism traffic and prayed it would bring blessings to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.

Archbishop Ugorji also commended Akwa Ibom’s hospitality and infrastructure, noting that the Bishops’ Conference in Ikot Ekpene was an exceptional experience. He added: “It is good for us to be here; let us build three tents, one for the Government, one for the people, and one for the Bishops’ Conference.”

Governor Eno, in his response, reaffirmed his commitment to a compassionate, people-focused administration anchored on unity, peace, and improved living standards. He appreciated the Catholic Church and other Christian bodies for their prayers and support, assuring that his government would remain inclusive and development-driven.

The Governor further revealed that with federal support under President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, Akwa Ibom has executed projects without bank borrowings and is on track to clear all inherited debts before the end of his first term.

Other Bishops, including Archbishop Joseph Ekwuwem of Calabar Province and Bishop Camillus Umoh of Ikot Ekpene Diocese, joined in applauding Governor Eno’s leadership.

The State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Chris Nyong, also commended him for fostering unity within the Christian community.
