Indeed knowledge is power. His Excellency, Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State has yesterday being the 26th of September, 2020 posted on both his verified Twitter handle and Facebook page that he is reading his third book called : “Principles of Leadership; According to the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate” which will be the final in the series of books he read in order to guide him on making a sound decision on the appointment of the New Emir of Zazzau.
He had earlier on informed the public that he read: Governorment In Zazzau from 1800-1950 by Prof. M.G Smith , British in Northern Nigeria by Robert Heussler. We are by his post meant to understand that he is now reading the Principles of Leadership; According to the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate by Hamid Bobboyi.
In my observation on the third book, the book is not only relevant in leadership selection process, but in my view it is also highly recommended in governance itself. The book is a collection of works by Sheikhs Uthman Ibn Foduye, Abdullahi Ibn Foduye and Muhammad Bello Ibn Utman Ibn Foduye.
Former President Obasanjo has in the volume three of his book called: My Watch, wrote thus:
“…The most grasping, inspiring, and pointed books I have read on leadership is, Principles of Leadership, according the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate, collected and edited by Hamid Bobboyi and given to me by the Sultan of Sokoto in 2013.It is a collection of quotes, ideas, and thoughts, arrestingly written and boldly printed. It can be easily read and digested in about one hour. I strongly recommend it to leaders in all walks of life and at all levels, but particularly political leaders everywhere and especially in Nigeria. I found it most instructive.” (P. 368).
For those interested in its, the book has just about 103 pages which will be bought at less than N1,000. I bought mine in Arewa House bookshop, Kaduna in 2016.
May the Almighty God guide Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i to choose an Emir that will be the best for Zazzau Emirate and Nigeria as a whole .
