Gombe Police Confirm Arrest of Tricyclist Over Officer’s Death

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a tricyclist accused of killing a police officer, Inspector Kambarawa Wazani, during the enforcement of the state’s motorcycle restriction order.

Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Gombe.

He explained that the incident happened on Friday evening around 7 p.m., at the Deputy Governor’s office junction along Bauchi Road. According to him, the rider, speeding from Jeka da Fari, hit Inspector Wazani while trying to evade security checks.

“The officer, aged 40, was struck by a reckless tricyclist during enforcement of the motorcycle restriction. Sadly, he lost his life in the line of duty,” Abdullahi stated.

The tricyclist was reportedly injured in the crash, treated at the hospital, and later taken into police custody after discharge.

The command used the opportunity to caution road users to respect traffic rules and exercise patience at police checkpoints to prevent accidents and loss of lives.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson also dismissed false social media reports about another motorcycle accident involving a pregnant woman at a checkpoint.

He clarified that the rider involved in that case, Rabi’u Gidado, was alone on his Haojue Lucky motorcycle when he tried to evade Police Patrol 999 personnel.

“In his attempt to avoid the checkpoint, he accelerated, lost control, and fell, sustaining an injury to his lower limb,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed that the victim was immediately taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he received treatment, adding that the claims of him carrying a pregnant wife or being attacked by an officer were completely false.

“The accident resulted from reckless speeding while evading lawful enforcement,” he concluded
