FG Approves N142Bn To Construct Bus Terminal In Nation’s Six Geo-Political Zones

The Federal Government has approved N142 Billion for the construction of Bus Terminals, one each in the six geo-political zones of the country.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the funds for the construction at its sitting earlier on Wednesday.
The Minister of Transport, Sen. Sa’id Ahmed Alkali, presented the memo approved by the for the construction of the modern bus terminals in six states at a cost of ₦142 billion on Friday.
He said the memo was among the memos that were presented to FEC seeking for approval, include the construction of the Bus terminals, one in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He said, “And I give you the location. Southwest in Abeokuta, north east in Gombe, north west in Kano, north-central in Lokoja, south east in Onitsha, south-south in Warri, in favour of Messr. Planet Project Limited, in the sum of 142,028,576,428 Naira 17 Kobo only.
“Let me say this loud and clear. This is the first time government is having intervention on road infrastructure apart from road construction. The idea of these terminals was chosen based on choice of their economic viability.
“It has come to the notice of the ministry that in spite of the significance of road transportation in Nigeria, there are no Bus terminals to address the interests of millions of Nigerian commuters.
“As a result, we have a lot of crime, road traffic accident, proliferation of arms and ammunitions on our highways. So that is what informs the ministry to approach Mr. President and indeed the Federal Executive Council to seek for the approval of the construction of these Bus terminals,” he said.
