Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi Shuts Down Following Armed Robbery Attack On Male Hostel

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi was thrown into chaos last night after armed robbers stormed the male students’ hostel at about 3:39 a.m., leaving several students injured and others in critical condition.
Victims are currently receiving treatment at the school’s medical centre.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers carted away students’ belongings and inflicted injuries on two students during the raid.
The incident has heightened fears over the growing insecurity in and around the institution, an issue that has been affecting nearby areas like Gwallameji.
The shocking attack sparked a massive protest Tuesday morning, with hundreds of students blocking major roads to demand immediate action. Protesters, chanting “Enough is enough!”, called on the Bauchi State Government to urgently address the insecurity threatening their lives and education.
The Bauchi State Police Command was deployed to restore calm, but tensions escalated after reports emerged that a student was shot during the protest.
The demonstration, initially peaceful, turned chaotic when suspected hoodlums reportedly hijacked it.
In a memo signed by the Registrar, Alhaji Kasimu Salihu, the school’s management announced the immediate closure of academic activities, giving students two hours to vacate the campus. The decision followed the violent turn of events during the protest.
Students are demanding increased security presence in and around the school and Gwallameji, improved lighting in vulnerable areas and a comprehensive security plan to protect students and residents.
“This is no longer just about stolen belongings; our lives are at stake. We deserve to study in peace,” said Abubakar Muhammad, one of the protesting students.
The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi community is now calling on the Bauchi State Government, security agencies, and stakeholders to act swiftly before another tragedy occurs.
