The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Command, has arrested and paraded one Francis Gabriel, who specialises in vandalising and stealing electricity cables belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC ).
The commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr Iskil Makinde, said in Lagos on Friday that the suspect of No. 19, Idasho St, Eleko in Badagary, Lagos State, was arrested by the corps, after being alerted by members of the Eleko community.
The suspect was paraded on Friday in Lagos.
The commandant said, ”Immediately, the NSCDC patrol team at Eleko community learnt about the incident , they swung into action and apprehended Gabriel with the cable red-handed.”
The NSCDC boss said that Gabriel, 28, and a father of two girls, was caught on Sept. 24 at about 9 p.m.
The commandant saidthat investigations would be conducted to find other accomplices.
He said the culprit would be taken to court to face prosecution immediately.
Makinde, however, commended the Eleko Community for obliging the vorps with information that led to the arrest of the vandal , stressing that the operation could not have been successful without their cooperation.
He assured the residents of Lagos state of daily and constant patrols by the NSCDC and surveillance of critical infrastructure.
According to him, the corps will rid Lagos of hoodlums.
Gabriel also confessed to committing the offence at the parade of the exhibit.
Narrating his ordeal, he said that he started stealing electricity cables after he lost his job in Lagos in 2019.
“ I had successfully stolen electricity cables two times, which I sold for N20,000 each before I was caught.
“Luck ran out on me this time,” Gabriel said.
