Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has said that he is reading Prof. G Smith’s book, ‘Government in Zazzau’ to guide him in the selection of new Emir of Zazzau.
In a statement published on his Twitter page, El-Rufai said he must be knowledgeable about the processes of selecting Emirs in the emirate before he can make a final decision on who will succeed late Shehu Idris as new Emir of Zazzau.
“While awaiting the recommendations of the Zazzau Emirate kingmakers, I am re-reading Prof M G Smith’s authoritative epic on the selection of Zazzau Emirs from 1800 to 1950 to guide me in taking a decision. “Government in Zazzau” was published in 1960.
“The kingmakers recommend but ultimate responsibility to choose rests on my humble self. I must be as knowledgeable about the process as the aspirants and kingmakers.” He said
Late Shehu Idris, who was the 18th Fulani ruler of the emirate, died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 84, leaving behind four wives and several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Until his death, he was the chairman of the state’s council of traditional rulers.
