Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 4 suspects linked to the Kidnapping and loss of a six-year old Shuaibu Safiyanu in Sade, Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
A statement issued to journalists by the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said one Safiyanu Abdullahi, a resident of Sade reported the disappearance of his son, Shuaibu, to the village head, Musa Isa.
It said that later that day, Abdullahi received a ransom demand of N3 million from an unknown caller, which was eventually lowered to N200,000.
Responding to the report, the police began an investigation which led to the arrest of a 23 year old Rabiu Muhammadu, from Leka village, at a nearby POS site.
The suspect was found to have the phone number and account number 0145285130 Ozochikelu Samson, Union Bank Plc used to make the ransom demand.
During interrogation the suspect identified 35-year old Samson Ozochikelu, from Sade, as the mastermind to the kidnapping, with 25 years old Mohammed Sani, alias jingi, and 30 years old Musa Usman, alias kala, from Leka village via Darazo, also implicated, and all 4 suspects are currently in custody.
According to the statement, the body of Shuaibu Safiyanu was discovered in a nearby bush tied with a rope around his neck and his remains evacuated to the General hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
The body was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites while investigation into the case is on going.
In another development, four suspects were arrested by the police in connection with the death of a 20 year old security guard, Polmi Dauda, at a location adjacent to Larema hotel, where he worked.
The police command’s statement said that the victim brother, Mr. Danda Dauda, reported to the police that Polmi had sustained serious injuries due to an altercation with several individuals at the said location.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the altercation may have stemmed from an allegation of theft involving clothing and personal items belonging to a tenant.
The individuals involved were identified as Ibrahim Yahaya, a pharmacist; Musa Awwal, a medical doctor, both of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi; Imran Ibrahim, a local businessman, and Zakariya’u Isah, another security guard, were all believed to have conspired to confront Polmi, leading to the regrettable outcome.
“The suspects have been taken into custody and are providing critical information to assist in the on going investigation, while the deceased’s body has been deposited for postmortem examination at the ATBUTH mortuary, ” the statement concluded.
