Security forces in Katsina State have successfully rescued 84 captives and neutralised three terrorists in a daring joint military operation conducted in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.
The Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has announced this in a statement issued by the commissioner, Dr Nasir Mua’zu.
He said the operation carried out by troops of the 17 Brigade in collaboration with the Air Component Operation Forest Sanity targeted the notorious terrorist enclave led by Sanusi Dutsin-Ma in the Pauwa highlands.
According to him, the mission commenced at approximately 0900 hours, with security forces launching coordinated airstrikes on predetermined targets while ground troops advanced for offensive manoeuvres.
He added that the troops engaged the terrorists in Malori and Matalawa villages, pushing them deeper into the hills.
Mua’zu further explained that by 1509 hours, the security forces reached the camp of Sanusi Dutsin-Ma, engaging in a fierce firefight until about 1630 hours.
The confrontation resulted in the neutralisation of three terrorists, while several others fled with injuries.
In the aftermath, the troops rescued 84 captives comprising seven males, 23 females, and 54 children who had been held in terrorist camps. The troops also destroyed pairs of camouflage uniforms and other suspicious items found at the site.
The rescued individuals received immediate food assistance before being handed over to local government authorities for further care and reunification with their families.
“This successful operation demonstrates our commitment to restoring peace and security across Katsina State.
“The rescue of these innocent civilians, especially the children, is a testament to our relentless pursuit of safety and justice”, the statement read.
The commissioner reaffirmed Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration’s dedication to supporting security agencies in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of all residents.
