The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon. Jonathan Okuba Addra, has taken a swift steps to avert crisis over the reallocation of remodelled shops In Doma Wednesday market.
There was a lot of outpouring of encomium, especially from those with lock-up shops at the remodelled Doma Wednesday Market over the stringent measures taken to ensure everlasting peace.
The rush hour re-allocarion by the immediate past Chairman of the Council, Arc. Ahmed Sarki Usman, raised a lot of concern. It was alleged that the former chairman was even able to re-allocate shops two days after he exited the seat of power.
Insiders says he used the Director Personnel Management (DPM) to achieve his plan to outsmart some shop owners who are the genuine owners for years.
It was gathered that even those that did not demand for shops were allocated shops , While some of his aides are busy having field day collecting monies from their victims who were yet to secure allocation documents from the local government council.
Pundit said that in the process of the back door arrangement, not less than N14,000,000 was realised by his cabals who were hell-bent on getting loot from their victims.
The swift intervention of the incumbent chairman, Hon. Jonathan Okuba, by setting up an investigative committee was described by affected persons as an effort in the right direction as well a process to curtail skirmishes.
Tension was high in Doma Local Government Council between traders and the immediate past council management following an accusation of revocation of lock-up shops.
This platform can authoritatively report that one of the shop owners who spoke in confidence said her four shops were wrongly re-allocated to other people without her consent.
The owner of shop number 87, 88,89,100 averred that the numbers of her shops were deleted from the entrance of the shop while another padlock was put on top of the main padlock, signifying that there was fire on the mountain in the market.
One of the shop owners in an interview said that she was allocated the shop for the past 25 years, having all the required papers.
The Executive Chairman maintained that the local government in a determination to address the situation inaugurated a committee in that regard, which had since submitted it report within 21 days.
“An eleven member committee to investigate the allocation of new shops at the Doma Wednesday.market has been constituted.
“The committee was constituted to investigate alleged diversion and multiple allocation of shops and the entire process with a view to ascertaining those culpable of frivolous allocations,” the chairman said.
Hon.Jonathan Adara mentioned terms of reference of the committee to include verification of the number of shops, examination of the the procedures used for allocating the shops.
