Yobe gets 2 Commissioners, 4 Perm. Secs, 28 SA’s, others
Yobe state Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON today administered Oath of Office on two Commissioners, the stste Head of Service, four Permanent Secretaries, and 28 Special Advisers for effective service delivery in the state.
The newly appointed commissioners include Prof. Abba Idris and Alh. Mohammed Mohammed Bara.
Gov. Buni charged the new commissioners to contribute positively to the formulation and execution of all government policies, programmes, and projects prudently and transparently for the benefit of the people of the state.
“You are also expected to use your wealth of experience and inject new ideas to add value to the achievements recorded by this administration. You should be mindful of serving the people first with great consideration to the future of the state, ” he said.
Addressing the new Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, the governor said “the state is losing experienced hands to retirement, you should cultivate a new effective and efficient workforce to serve our people.
“I want to assure you that government would provide your office with all the necessary support to train and retrain the workforce to promote efficiency in service delivery.
“Let me, however, warn that this administration would not tolerate favouritism in appointments and promotions to undeserving persons while the most qualified and deserving persons are abandoned and frustrated.
“We must promote competence and merit to make the civil service efficient and productive. We must differentiate between civil service, ” he said.
Gov. Buni charged the Special Advisers to carry their constituents along to understand the government policies and programmes.
“Most often, our communities are left behind because we fail to bring them on board to understand the workings of government policies and programmes.
“The office of a Special Adviser can only be vibrant when there is a working connection with the grassroots to afford you credible inputs, for you to advise from a well-informed perspective.”
Gov. Buni assured that his administration would continue to maintain its open door policy for public officers to make contributions and take collective ownership and responsibility of the government.
He enjoined the new appointees to key into the policy of accountability, probity, and transparency of his administration.
“Let me state with a sense of modesty that as a government, we have made impressive success in accountability and transparency in governance which has earned the state recognition and awards from reputable international organizations, we must strive to improve on this remarkable feat, as we cannot afford to degenerate.
“As you may be aware, we
have already developed an 11-point agenda to turn around the fortunes of the State in various fields of human endeavour, ” he advised.
The Chairman of the Teaching Service Board, Yakubu Dokshi, three members of the State Independent Electoral Commission and a member of the Local Government service commission, were also sworn into office by the governor.

Senate Approves Establishment Of Federal University of Health Sciences, and Technology Tsafe
…Provost, Others Commend Senator Bilbis
The Senate has approved the establishment of Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology,Tsafe Zamfara State.
This followed the adoption of the report of its joint Committee on the establishment of the University after necessary legislative processes on the Bill sponsored by the Senator Representing Zamfara Central, Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis.
It could be recalled that, the Bill passed Second Reading on November 28, 2023 and was referred to the to the joint committees on Health, Secondary and Tertiary and the Tertiary Education and TETfund for further legislative action.
The Bill was titled, “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Health Sciences, and Technology Tsafe, Zamfara State as a training institution for the development of medical and health sciences and to make comprehensive provisions for the management and administration of the University; and for Related Matters, 2023 (SB.161)”.
The joint Committee headed by Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo conducted a public hearing and submitted its report to the Senate which approved the establishment of the University at its Committees of the Whole.
Speaking during the presentation of the report, Senator Banigo said, the Bill seeks to upgrade the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe Zamfara State to Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology to provide full time courses in health sciences and technology and other related fields of studies to produce high quality medical professionals with broad knowledge, skills and value and to strengthen institutional capacity for Disease Control and surveillance, as well as bridge the gap in medical research, and make provisions for the General Administration of University and other related matters.
She added, “The methodology is clearly elaborated and the committee has observed that Nigeria’s population of doctors and medically trained personnel is far below global standards. This institution will increase the human resources required to meet the growing needs, including addressing infrastructure deficits in the health sector.
“When established, the university will attract people to the state by providing higher educational, academic and professional programs for those seeking to pursue degrees in health sciences, technology and related fields.
“The Federal University of Health Science and Technology when established will help address the dearth of admission of students interested in health sciences and technology in Nigeria, and supply the much needed manpower in the health care services, as well as create an avenue for income generation, self sustenance and boost the economy of the country.
“When passed into law, the huge gap in doctor-patient ratio as well as in medical research and technology will be bridged. The university will also advance healthcare delivery in Nigeria through research, innovation, training, and development of the health sector.
“The committee’s therefore recommend the establishment of Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara states after a clause by clause consideration of the Bill”.
It could be recalled that, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Alhaji Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa had in a statement after the public hearing on the Bill in May this year signed by the Information Officer of the College, Jamilu Sani Tsafe, acknowledged the effort of Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, for bringing the Bill to the Senate.
He stated that the establishment of the university would further support the efforts and initiatives of the Zamfara State Government by providing an advanced teaching and learning environment that would improve the capacity of health workers and enhance economic potentials of Zamfara State.
He thanked the state government for the support given to the college, especially the total renovation of the college.
