Ranches should be everywhere – Sen. Goje
Senator representing Gombe central Danjuma Goje has advocated the establishment of ranches in all parts of the country for Fulani herders.
Goje made the advocacy while contributing to a bill on grazing at the red chamber of the national assembly.
DAYLIGHT REPORTERS reports that a senator from Benue state sponsored the bill in which he suggested that grazing reserves should only be established in Fulani places.
However, Goje said Fulani herders are citizens of the country like others opining that restricting them from grazing in only their places of origins was not fair.
According to him, wherever there is adequate grazing land with grasses and water, ranches should be established for the cattle rearers to feed their animals.
He urged his fellow lawmakers not to view the farmers-herders clash as a problem peculiar to some people but as a national problem, adding that establishment of ranches could help solve it.
Buttressing his points further, Goje claimed that Fulani aherdsmen do not enjoy much of the government’s projects like education, infrastructure and housing schemes asserting that grazing reserve was the only thing they could benefit from government
