Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has said the Super Eagles have put the disappointment of their early exit from AFCON 2021 behind them and are ready to fly this time around in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles started their campaign in Cameroon in a blistering fashion, winning all three group games.
The three-time champions were, however, eliminated by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the Round of 16.
Jose Peseiro’s men have also been widely criticised for their poor start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea in a pre-AFCON friendly has further cast doubt on their chances of winning a fourth title in Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
Musa is, however, optimistic the Super Eagles will do well in the competition.
“Going out early at the last AFCON was really disappointing and we don’t want a repeat of that,” Musa told a press conference in Abidjan on Saturday.
“We don’t have to talk too much in the media, we will do the talking on the pitch.
“Nigerians must believe in us, we won’t let them down.”
The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON 2023 campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Sunday.
