64th Independence Anniversary: Obi Calls for Urgent Need to Rescue Nigeria
By Juliet Vincent
Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has warned that Nigeria is urgently in need of rescue from further decay.
He made the remarks Tuesday in a statement on his X handle on the backdrop of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.
Obi noted that this year’s celebration should be a time for sober reflection, especially for the nation’s leadership.
He pointed out that the independence anniversary is a day to appreciate God for abundantly blessing the country with natural, human, and material resources to build a great nation.
The presidential candidate stressed that the country’s abundant resources have not translated into meaningful progress.
According to him, the day should be of sober reflection for every Nigerian, especially for them, the leaders, whose actions and inactions have contributed to the stagnation and glaring failures witnessing at present.
Obi said widespread poverty, a broken education system, and an overwhelming debt burden have continued to plague the country.
He, however, called on Nigerians to recommit to building a nation free from tribal disunity, religious disharmony and corruption.
