48 Hours After Power Restoration, Cable Thief Electrocuted in Gombe
By Najib Sani, Gombe
A suspected electric cable thief met his gruesome demise on Friday succumbing to the deadly voltage he sought to vandalise in Gombe State capital.
Our correspondent reports that this was happening barely 48 hours after electricity was restored to the northern part of the country following a 9-day blackout.
Residents of Orji Estate in the state capital woke up to a gory sight of the body of the suspected thief charred beyond recognition, dangling from a power line near the state Ministry of Aomen Affairs around the estate.
Commercial motorcycle riders and passersby flocked to the scene, witnessing the horrific aftermath of the man’s ill-fated attempt to vandalise and steal electric cables.
The victim’s head was badly burnt, clothes tattered and body parts severed.
Our correspondent who visited the scene reports that electricity workers carefully removed the corpse from the pole, while police officers evacuated the remains.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Police in Gombe State, Buhari Abdullahi, said the incident happened Friday morning at about 7 am and that Police personnel have taken his corpse to a mortuary pending when any family will claim him.
