The police, on Thursday, arraigned three men before a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for allegedly breaking into a house, stealing office equipment and receiving stolen property.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendants, Daniel Yohanna, 24;Yusuf Abdullahi, 22 and Buhari Ahmed, 26, were of undisclosed addresses.
They were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, house breaking and receiving stolen property.
The Police Prosecutor, Ben Emenike, told the court that the first and second defendants, Yohanna and Abdullahi, with others at large, broke into Bayelsa Guest House at Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja on April 11.
Emenike said that the defendants carted away two flat- screen television set, one refrigerator, one HP computer and four UPS.
He listed other items allegedly stolen by the defendants to include one microwave, one DVD recorder, one decoder, one kettle and two office executive chairs.
In addition, Emenike said that one HTC mobile phone, one desk phone, two printers, one camera, one photocopy machine, two laminating machines, two office file holders and 30 packets of slimming tea were also carted away by the defendants.
He said that the aforementioned items, whose value was unknown, were, thereafter, taken to Ahmed, who dishonestly received them, knowing that they were stolen items.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 97, 347 and 319 of the Penal Code Law.
All the defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them, while their counsel, Kenneth Osemeha, made an oral application for their bail.
The Magistrate, Linda Chidama, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with one ‘reasonable and reliable’ surety each in like sum.
Chidama, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Jan. 12, 2021, for hearing.
