3 Division Nigerian Army Hosts Bi-annual Range Classification 2024

The 3 Division of the Nigerian Army has conducted its second scheduled annual range classification at the Division Small Arms Range in Miango, Plateau State.
The General Officer Commanding, Major General A.E. Abubakar at the event welcomed the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Gakji Shippi, along with other esteemed guests.
In his address, Brigadier General Shippi emphasized the significance of the exercise in enhancing the shooting skills and weapon handling capabilities of security personnel
According to him, this training was essential for differentiating security forces from civilians.
” Without these skills, we cannot adequately protect the populace or instill confidence in confronting criminal elements.”
Shippi used the event to addressed the troubling events from the previous day, where two attacks in Daffo and Kwatas, Bokkos Local Government Area had resulted in seven fatalities and several injuries.
He reassured attendees that while the situation was calm this morning, efforts to track down those responsible for these attacks would continue.
He assured that “We will not allow them to evade justice.”
The biannual range classification exercise is aimed at assessing the operational readiness of the Nigerian Army’s arsenal and testing of the effectiveness of troop skills in weapon handling.
“It also serves as a platform to enhance marksmanship to ensure minimal casualties and efficient use of ammunition during combat or internal security operations.” He stressed .
“Additionally, the exercise fosters collaboration between various security agencies through a series of novelty shooting activities, which include participation from heads of security agencies, government officials, traditional leaders, retired military personnel, corps members, and media representatives. Involvement from traditional rulers and civil society during the shooting exercises is intended to enhance understanding of military operations and promote healthy civil-military relations.”
Participants at the event had the opportunity to fire multiple types of weapons, including the AK-47 rifle, FN rifle, and pistols, affirming the Army’s commitment to continuous skill development and collaboration with community stakeholders.
