By Uket Oka, Calabar
Ahead 2027 elections in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has adopted the State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, and his deputy, Rt Hon Peter Odey, as sole candidates for the governorship elections in the State.
The State Chairman of the party, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Work Committee and State Executive Committee meeting of the party held at the APC’s Secretariat, Calabar, the State capital.
Eba explained that the decision of the party to unanimously endorse Governor Otu and his Deputy, was based on the impressive performance of the governor within his one years and ten months in office.
The State party Chairman noted that even the blind has seen that the divine guidance of the consensus emergence of the governor as candidate of the party in 2023 was the best choice.
He further stated that the endorsement of the Governor and his Deputy for 2027 was to enable him to continue with the good works he has already started.
“The saying that, one good term deserves another is why we have decided to start early and to make it known that for the Perigrino House of Cross River State, the State Working Committee of the party and the State Executive Committee of the party met today and has resolved that Senator, Prince Bassey Otu is our sole candidate for the governorship election of 2027.
“It was a joint ticket that they had with His Excellency, the present Acting Governor, Rt Hon Peter Odey, a young man whom we have found so much loyalty and have seen so much intellect; we have seen so much support base to the governor. Nobody changes a winning team, and we know the governor is a man filled with wisdom. It is therefore, the decision of the party that this two best, pair by the special grace of God to fly the flag of our party,” Eba stated.
He explained that all party members, support groups are advised to freely go to the field to continue the evangelical vision that would promote the choice of the party to the electorate in the state.
“No one speaks to be converted, we need to work more with our brothers and sisters in the opposition to join hands with us.
“This is because, Cross River State’s politics has become a trajectory of peace, love, unity, growth and perfect understanding of movement from the south and went to central and went to north and now, berthed back in the south.
“And because the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees the right to second term, and because this party is in full support of the governor and his deputy, even if he is unwilling to run, we are saying that, we will procure one ticket and will have his name, just like we did in 2023,” he noted.
Eba used the opportunity to appeal to the governor to accept the decision of the party, stressing that, “we want him to continue the good works, because Cross River State has seen where he is going to and is sure he will take us and land us safely in the point of plenty.”
