Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar and his deputy, Umar Namadi were booed by youths in Gumel local government area of the state when they attended the popular Sallar Gani festival.
The deputy governor is the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State.
Sallar Gani is a popular celebration during the annual Eid-El-Maulud (Celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in Gumel, where the people display an age-old blend of multiethnic cultures through Dubar and other cultural activities.
The youths were seen shouting ‘Bamayi’ (we don’t want you) to the governor and his deputy in a viral video, while the duo were standing and flapping at the yelling crowd through the sunroof of a moving vehicle.
While the grievances of the booing youths is not clear, it was however reported that, it was not unconnected with the devastating flood that ravages the state which has added to the frustration of citizens in the state.
It was alleged that Governor Badaru left the state when many communities were inundated by devastation from the flood which has claimed over 100 lives, destroyed farmlands and other valuable properties.
