There is uncertainty about the future and cohesiveness in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State after the Senator Representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, Senator Dalladi Sankara holds a meeting with the State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido.
The meeting was reportedly held behind closed doors at the Senator’s residence in Abuja on Monday.
An aide to the PDP governorship candidate, Mansur Ahmad, confirmed that, Lamido has indeed met with Senator Sankara as well as other prominent politicians in the state.
Although it was not clear what was discussed at the meeting, it however triggered fears that, the Senator may join the PDP or work for the party in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
It could be recalled that, Senator Sankara shunned the APC governorship campaign flag-off in Gumel, which is one of the 12 local government areas that make up his Senatorial district.
He had earlier fell out of favour with Governor Muhammad Badaru before the APC primary election when he pulled out and accused the governor of bias against him.
Some people however believed that, he would have left the APC after the primaries, but he was convinced to remain as a member of the party by his long-term friend, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Senator Kashim Shettima.
Sankara was quoted after pulling out of the primaries saying, “I resolved to withdraw from participating in the ongoing primaries of Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District due to biased and preferential actions of the state party leader (Mr Badaru), Mr Sankara said in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Adamu.
“I will like to thank the people of Jigawa North-west for giving me the mandate to represent them at the red chamber on two occasions.
“For those who have supported me right from the beginning of my aspiration, I thank you all for believing in me and I hope everyone will understand this to be the will of Allah Almighty and as humans, we must accept whatever the lord designed for us”.
Since his withdrawal from the APC race, he has avoided all it’s political gatherings in the state.
He had also reportedly rejected to be the director general of the APC campaign in the state.
