In an apparent move to consolidate the party’s presence in Jigawa State, the People Democratic Party ( PDP) executives and critical stakeholders have held a closed-door meeting with a former governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, and promised to work together with him.
The grand aim, according to Daylight Reporters findings, is to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the forthcoming general elections.
In his speech after the close-door meeting held at Ex Governor Turaki residence, the state PDP Chairman, Babandi Gumel, said they held the meeting as part of preparation for the party primary election.
He explained that, ex Governor Saminu Turaki is a leader in the party and, in view of that, they sat down with him to see how they could work together to liberate Jigawa state from APC.
“We are expecting APC to start packing out from our state, as we will to everything possible within the democratic tenets to ensure its government does not go beyond 2023,” Gumel stated.
In his speech, the former state Governor Alhaji Saminu Turaki said APC leadership has drawn Jigawa state back from the path of peace and progress it was put on by his administration and that of his successor, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
He noted that PDP is the only political party that has the structure and blueprint that can propell state to prosperity.
According to political analysts in the state, the meeting symbolized political reconciliation between former Governor Sule Lamido and former Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki to achieve common interest after years rivalry.
