A former Jigawa State Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel has resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over intra-party crisis and other issues.
He announced hia resignation in a letter dated 30th December, 2022 addressed to the Galangamawa Ward APC Chairman in Gumel local government area.
The letter reads in parts, “With all sense of respect and regards as a Chairman, your person and your party to notify you of my resignation from All Progressive’s Congress (APC).
“I’m constraint to take this decision due to the obvious intra party conflict, disunity and lack of commitment and confidence on the party stalwarts towards the success of the party in the fourth coming general elections.
“By this decision, I will retire to my farming business and equally to continue with my philanthropist gesture to the people of Jigawa state.”
Gumel stated that, he is consulting party stakeholders on his future plans and wishes all APC members well in their present and future engagements.
He was a two term Deputy Governor to former Governor Sule Lamido and a one time commissioner of finance in former Governor Saminu Turaki’s administration under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gumel had in 2015 led hundred of thousands of PDP followers to the APC and he played a vital role in bringing the present APC administration led by Governor Badaru Abubakar.
His resignation came at a time when some APC bigwigs are also rumoured to be planning to dump the party as a result of internal crises.
The Jigawa APC has been in crisis since the emergence of the Deputy Governor, Umar Namadi Danmodi as the 2023 gubernatorial candidate who was allegedly imposed by Governor Abubakar.
