12 political parties have signed peace accord for a peaceful campaigns and elections in 2023.
The peace accord meeting was organised by the Jigawa police command has with gulbernatorial,Senatorial candidates of the 12 registered political parties in the state .
The meeting was held at the police head quarters in Dutse, the state capital, chaired by the Jigawa state commissioner of police Mr Emmanual Ekot.
In his remark, the police Commissioner said the meeting was organised to ensure hitch free campaign rallies and a free and fair, non-violent elections in a secured environment.
He therefore urged the politicians to support and work closely with the police and all other security agencies to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the campaigns and elections.
Ekot advises all the political parties to draw up it’s own itineraries for campaigns and summit it to the police for necessary security actions .
He charges the candidates and their media aides to shun inciting statements and vandalization of opposition parties properties like banners posters and bill boards and desist from using thuggery to make ends.
The Police commissioner advises them to desist from personal attacks and spreading fake news, be committed in their campaigns and avoid use of hate speeches during political rallies .
He further warned politicians against the use of weapons like cut lasses, sticks, bows and arrows, guns, machest, jack knives and other dangerous weapons during electioneering campaigns and election.
The commissioner said that any person found wanting will be sanctioned and advised all parties executives to organised a training session for their members to educate them on electoral acts and rule of engagement specified in the electoral Act.
