Two traders on Wednesday appeared in a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court for being in possession of counterfeit Naira notes.
The police charged Musa Mohammed, 39, and Joseph Diakwo,37, with criminal conspiracy, cheating and possession of fake money.
The Prosecution Counsel, Fatima Shehu, told the court that three POS operators Adama Yakubu, Patricia Okowuosa and Ahmed Abdulkadir reported the matter at the Wuse Zone III police station on Sept.4.
Shehu alleged that the defendants intentionally and fraudulently gave three POS operators fake 62 pieces of N1, 000 and 56 pieces of N500.
She alleged that the defendants further hypnotised the operators to transfer N50, 000, N20, 000 and N20, 000 respectively into their Polaris and Fidelity bank account.
The prosecutor told the court that during police interrogation, the defendants confessed to the crime.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 322 and 438 of the Penal Code.
The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Ahmed Ndaji admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each in like sum.
Ndaji, ordered that the sureties must be reliable and should live within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also ordered that the sureties must deposit a recent passport photograph and a valid means of identification which must be verified by the court registrar.
The magistrate adjourned the matter until Nov.16 for hearing.
