Two men — Yusuf Rasheed, 26 and Isah Monday, 25, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three bags of cement.
The defendants, of unknown residential addresses, are facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on March 12, at about 11.00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendants stole three bags of Dangote cement valued at N12,000 belonging to the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) in Ado-Ekiti.
He said Rasheed was a bricklayer, while Monday was a labourer working at the construction company’s site.
He noted that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
The prosecutor asked for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the court to grant them bail with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until April 11, for hearing.
