A 25-year-old sales representative, Chioma Success, who allegedly stole her employer’s goods worth N250, 000, on Monday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Success, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of stealing, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 6 at 8:32p.m. at Shop No. GF 37, Mandilas building, Lagos Island.
Osuji said that the defendant stole some Jean trousers valued at N250, 000, from the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Eze-Okafor.
He said the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section provides seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Erile, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
Erile adjourned the case until Aug. 14 for mention.
