PDP’s Otunba Showunmi Reflects on Edo Election Outcome
Otunba Segun Showunmi has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a post-mortem analysis of the Edo State election and previous polls.
Despite the party’s loss, Showunmi acknowledged PDP’s resilience, citing its strong performance amidst federal might and internal conflicts.
Showunmi commended PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighadolo, on his impressive first outing and encouraged him to remain his constituents’ voice.
He emphasised that elections serve as referendums on both ruling and opposition parties’ performance.
Showunmi stressed teamwork’s importance, noting no one can win alone.
The PDP chieftain made these expressions in his post-election message where he also raised concerns about Nigerians’ suffering under the current administration, suggesting the 2027 elections will hinge on economic realities.
Showunmi called for PDP unity, saying, “Wise men and women do not pretend not to see what is glaring.”
He advocated for a new direction to strengthen the opposition.
