Mr. Diah, who gave the assurance while rounding up the committee engagement with traditional rulers in Gembu, Sardauna local government area over the weekend, promised that all the submissions made by various stakeholders during their interactive sessions would be treated diligently.

He said aside financial autonomy local government must achieve administrative and political freedom to foster grassroots development, hence the need for the committee to meet with various stakeholders to come up with modalities on how best to implement the autonomy.

He commended Governor Agbu Kefas, for taking “bold steps toward a genuine local government autonomy in Taraba’’.

Recall shortly after the Supreme Court’s judgement affirming financial autonomy to local governments, Kefas set up a committee to guide him on the implementation of the judgement.

Mr Kefas said the judgement aligns with his commitment to decentralisation and local empowerment.

“This directive is not just a policy change. It is a profound shift towards true autonomy and self-governance for our local governments.” Kefas said during the inauguration of the committee.

Immediately after the inauguration the committee held a series of meetings with various stakeholders within the local government system, including traditional rulers.

Speaking with the traditional rulers, from the central zone of the state, Mr Diah pledged that the committee will ensure a strong and collaborative relationship between local government authorities and traditional institutions in the state.

He said the initiative is expected to enhance grassroots development.

“It is our firm belief that the local government’s autonomy will serve to strengthen and empower our traditional institutions, allowing you to play an even more pivotal role in the development and well-being of your people.

“As the custodians of our rich cultural heritage, the guardians of our time-honoured traditions, and the trusted advisors to our communities, your guidance and involvement will be indispensable in this new era of local governance.

“We envisage a future where the local government administrations work in close collaboration with the traditional rulers, drawing upon your unparalleled knowledge of the local context, your deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of your people, and your unwavering commitment to the well-being of your communities.

“Your role as the interface between the government and the grassroots will be amplified, ensuring that the policies, programs, and decisions made at the local level are truly reflective of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by each community.” Diah said
