Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State says his administration will begin House training for doctors at the Specialist Hospital in Gombe.
Yahaya disclosed in Gombe on Thursday when he received members of Governing Board of the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency on a courtesy visit.
“We are now going to start the training of our own Doctors that graduated from the Gombe State University.
“We are going to utilise the manpower we have, otherwise we have to send them to Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe or other places,” he said.
He said the contributory health agency and the newly established Hospital Management Board would complement every aspect of what the state government had done in the health sector which in turn, would give them the robust healthcare system for the state.
Yahaya said the state was now having functional healthcare facilities in each of the 114 wards across the state.
He said the only challenge was the issue of human resources which is very essential, but people have taken it lightly.
“If you go to the Primary Health Care Agency, before we move and adopted the policy of Primary Health Care under one roof,
“You will find out that the local government recruited people who were not qualified to work there, just because of the benefit – salaries and allowances of health workers.,” he said.
The governor said his administration was making effort to digitalise and fix things right, before they would begin recruitment of qualified staffers and professionals who are fit to work at the healthcare facilities.
“We want to move fast enough to recover the lost ground and catch up with advanced states in the country,” he said.
Dr Ya’u Kashere, the Chairman of the board, commended the governor for revitalising the primary healthcare facilitates in the state and for establishing the state Health Management Board.
He pledged the board’s readiness to support the governor realise his development dreams for the state.
