As part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the World Bank supported AGILE Project in Gombe State, a five day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop has commenced, focusing on the life skills component which targets the holistic development of adolescent girls.
The training organised by the Guidance and Counselling Association of Nigeria in collaboration with the Gombe State AGILE Project is taking place at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Gombe State Project Coordinator, Dr Amina Haruna Abdul, represented by Deputy Project Coordinator Aishatu Sambo reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring the project’s success.
She noted that life skills development remains a critical pillar of the AGILE initiative in the state.
“Life skills are essential, and the project is laying a strong and systematic foundation for this component to benefit adolescent girls across Gombe State,” she said, urging participants to make meaningful contributions throughout the training.
Also speaking, Mrs Dorcas Kodangs Yakubu, the World Bank National Team Lead, commended Gombe for the strong start and emphasised the importance of adhering strictly to the project’s objectives and guidelines, adding that the Bank has zero tolerance for deviations.
In her remarks, Walida Maryam Muhammad, the Gombe State Component Lead on Life Skills, explained that the programme was designed to equip master trainers with essential life skills knowledge, which they will then cascade to public school teachers across the state.
Participants for the training were drawn from tertiary institutions, faith-based organisations, and guidance and counseling groups, ensuring wide reach and inclusivity.
The workshop featured presentations on Life Skills, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and practical sessions on Safe Space Activities, aimed at creating supportive environments for young girls in schools.
The AGILE Project (Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment) continues to make significant strides in Gombe State, focusing on enhancing access to education and building life competencies among adolescent girls.
